The Hebrides

The Scotish Hebrides are an archipelago of islands of the west coast of Scotland. The landscapes found in the Hebrides are arguably some of the spectacular in the British Isles.

Expedition Details

Experience a bespoke trek and sail holiday aboard luxury expedition vessel Zuza. These three to four trips give guests the chance to learn the ropes of sailing a large yacht, explore remote and less visited locations in the Hebrides only accessible by boat and navigate paths safely across naturally beautiful terrains around Scotland with an experienced Mammut hiking guide.

The trip includes all food, including a packed lunch for the treks and three-course meals on your return, Mammut mountaineering equipment, and exclusive use of a luxury yacht sailed by a qualified skipper and crew. Guests need to be at a good level of fitness and bring with them 3 season walking boots.

We aim to make sure that all the kit we use is to the highest standards. We are equipped with satellite telephones and full safety equipment. We have provided a kit list on these pages, but we are here to answer any questions and help you choose the right equipment. Our pre-expedition training course is designed to give you time to get to know your equipment before setting out on your trip.

Your expedition will be fully supported by experienced guides who will set safety parameters and have detailed knowledge of high-altitude mountaineering and its risks. This acknowledges that everyone on the team has a role to play in the safe outcome of the expedition, being mindful of risks and reducing them. In the local area, there is plenty of means for rescue as well as local mountain rescue on the ground.

We provide nutritious expedition food for each participant for all the days trekking. It will be enough calories for the trip, but if you feel like having some extra snacks, please feel free to bring them. Our selection of food to choose from is based on long experience where energy, taste and also preparation are key factors. Please let us know if you have special needs or concerns regarding food or nutrition, we will do our best to help.

Zuza, although only built in 1998, has plenty of history. After being launched in South Africa the British Royal Geographical Society chose Zuza to be an offshore base for an international marine research project off the east coast of Africa, where her features and reliability helped to facilitate groundbreaking research. This adventure vessel has a double hull and Bermudan Cutter rig, which makes her very smooth and steady on the water, and is easy for those that want to learn more about sailing or to just sit back and enjoy the ride in the comfort of the warm and dry wheelhouse.

This vessel accommodates eight guests with plenty of living room both on and below deck. Unusually for a vessel of this size, she has two lovely double-bedded cabins, which are often popular with guests travelling as couples. There are also another two twin berth cabins with bunk-bed style accommodation. The two shower rooms with toilets are close to all cabins in the middle of the ship. Zuza is a great fit for smaller group bookings and solo travellers, she has a comfortable saloon that is perfect for getting to know each other, trading sea-faring stories and enjoying some of the delicious food.
